Fit

Is this just for people with organizational/leadership challenges?

No. While many clients are leaders, the Synthesis Framework applies to any complex challenge: career transitions, creative blocks, relationship patterns, life redesign, or feeling stuck despite clear accomplishments. If you're technically sophisticated, think systematically, and face challenges that resist simple solutions—this framework is for you.

Will this work for my specific situation?

I've worked with leaders from R1 universities, tech startups, hospitals, consulting firms, and government labs. I've also worked with creative professionals, researchers in transition, and entrepreneurs. The Synthesis Framework is universal; the application is completely personalized to you.

What if I don't know what I need help with?

That's exactly what the initial 90-minute assessment is for. We'll map your behavioral ecosystem together and identify the highest-leverage intervention points. You don't need to have it all figured out—that's my job.

Approach

How is this different from regular coaching?

Most coaching focuses on motivation, mindset, and goal-setting. The Synthesis Framework maps your entire behavioral ecosystem using principles from systems engineering and neuroscience. We're not just changing isolated behaviors—we're redesigning the system that creates those behaviors. It's evidence-based, intellectually rigorous, and built for people who think deeply.

Do I need to understand systems theory or neuroscience?

No. I translate the complexity into practical applications. You'll understand the principles through direct experience as we apply them to your specific challenges. The sophistication is in the methodology, not in requiring you to become an expert.

What makes this different from other leadership coaches?

Three things: (1) Fully personalized—no group program you're squeezed into, (2) Systems-based approach rooted in neuroscience, not generic advice, (3) I'm a practicing researcher and entrepreneur, not just a coach—I live these challenges too.

Is this therapy or coaching?

This is coaching grounded in behavioral science and neuroscience. I'm not your therapist—I'm your coach, helping you systematically redesign how you operate. If you're experiencing significant mental health challenges, I encourage you to work with a qualified healthcare provider.

Getting Started

What does the Strategic Consultation involve?

It's a focused 20-minute conversation where I identify the core pattern that's keeping you stuck and we determine whether there's a fit. The $50 investment is credited toward your first month if we decide to work together.

Timeline

How long do people typically work with you?

The minimum engagement is 3 months. Most clients continue for 6-12 months as we tackle different challenges and build increasingly sophisticated systems. Some come back quarterly for "tune-ups."

Logistics

What if I need to reschedule a session?

Give me 24 hours notice and we'll reschedule with no penalty. Life happens—we work around it.

How quickly can we start?

Once you're accepted, we can usually schedule our first 90-minute assessment within 1-2 weeks. I maintain limited availability to ensure quality attention.

Commitment

What if we're not a good fit?

After the initial 3-month commitment, either of us can end the relationship with 30 days notice. No hard feelings—finding the right coach is important.

Restrictions

Are there any restrictions on who can work with you?

Yes. Due to professional and ethical considerations, I cannot coach employees of UNC, UNC Health, or anyone working in the healthcare industry. I'm happy to discuss options if you are unsure if this applies to you.
